Scripture is the foundational charter of the people of God. Jesus and the apostles did not leave behind a human constitution or evolving oral customs; they pointed their followers back to “what is written.” In a world filled with traditions and human opinions, Scripture stands as the stable, God‑given standard. To understand what God requires of us and how He leads His people, we must begin with the written Word.
Some people claim ancient religious texts are unreliable. Yet historians routinely accept other ancient documents based on far fewer sources. To understand any historical event, one must trust the “credibility of human testimony contained in historical documents or oral tradition,” a process that is equally valid for secular and sacred matters. This basic principle means we should take the Bible’s claims as seriously as we take reports about Caesar crossing the Rubicon.
Reliability comes from faithful transmission. Jewish scribes followed meticulous rules when copying Scripture: they used clean animal skins, counted every letter and word, checked the middle letter of each book, and rejected manuscripts if even a few pages needed correction. This reverence ensured an accurate text, unlike the false idea of scribes casually changing the story.
Scripture then guides our ethics, worship, and community life. It reveals God’s character, teaches us wisdom, and forms the basis of the New Covenant Church. If we want to follow Jesus, we must be “people of the Book,” trusting Scripture over human tradition.
