Hey everyone! Last time, we talked about the most important truth: there's only one God, our amazing Creator and Father. Today, we're going to dive a little deeper into how this one God works in the world and with people. It can be a bit tricky, but we'll use a simple picture to help us understand.
Question 1: How does God, who is just one, actually work in the world?
God's Power: The Tank, the Hose, and the Water
Imagine a huge water tank, filled with all the water in the world. This water is super important for life – it makes plants grow, it quenches thirst, it cleanses.
God the Father is like the Tank. He's the ultimate source of everything. All power, all wisdom, all goodness, all life starts with Him. He's the big, never-ending supply. He is the ultimate Boss, the one in charge, the beginning of everything.
Think of Psalm 36:9: "For with you is the fountain of life." God the Father is that fountain, that endless tank.
Jesus, the Son, is like the Hose. The water doesn't just splash directly from the tank everywhere. It needs a way to get to where it's needed. Jesus is that perfect connection, the way God's power and love come out from the Father to us.
Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." He's the perfect hose that connects us to the Father. He perfectly shows us what the Father is like.
The Holy Spirit is like the Water flowing through the Hose. This is the active power of God that actually does the work in the world. It brings life, it brings cleansing, it helps us grow. It's the "stuff" that God uses to interact with creation.
When the Bible talks about the Holy Spirit, it often uses images like wind or fire, but water is also a great one. John 7:38-39 talks about "rivers of living water" flowing from those who believe, which Jesus said referred to the Spirit.
So, God the Father is the source, Jesus is the channel, and the Holy Spirit is the active power that brings God's life to us and through us. They all work together perfectly as one God. There's no separate "water" from a different "tank" or "hose" here! It's all from the same divine source.

God Working Through People: Filled with the Spirit!
Now, how does this "water" (the Holy Spirit) reach the "earth" (us and our world)? God chose to work through special people throughout history! He filled them with His Spirit, letting His power flow through them like water through the hose.
1. Prophets: God's Speakers
Prophets were people God chose to deliver His messages. They heard directly from God and then told others what God wanted them to know. How did they do this? Through the Holy Spirit!
Numbers 11:25 talks about the Spirit resting on the elders of Israel, and they prophesied.
2 Peter 1:21 says, "For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."
Imagine: The water (Holy Spirit) flows from the tank (Father), through the hose (Jesus' authority), and out through the sprinklers (the prophets) to water a specific part of the garden (God's people).
2. Joseph: A Prisoner with Wisdom
Think about Joseph from the Old Testament (you can read his story in Genesis chapters 37-50). He was thrown into a pit, sold into slavery, and put in prison. But God was with him! Joseph had a special ability to understand dreams, and he used this gift to help Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, prepare for a famine.
Pharaoh himself recognized it: "Can we find a man like this, in whom is the Spirit of God?" (Genesis 41:38).
Imagine: Even in a dark, dry corner of the garden (prison), the water (Holy Spirit) could still reach Joseph, making him wise and fruitful, bringing life to those around him.
Question 5: How did prophets deliver God's messages? Question 6: What special gift did Joseph have, and what enabled him to have it?
3. Priests: Helping People Connect to God
Priests were chosen to serve in the Temple or Tabernacle. They offered sacrifices and prayers for the people, helping them connect with God. While the Old Testament doesn't always say "the Holy Spirit" explicitly for every priest, the idea was that God had to empower them to perform their holy duties properly. Their service was a channel for God's blessings and forgiveness (before Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice).
Exodus 28:3 talks about wise men, "whom I have filled with the Spirit of skill," making the priestly garments. This shows God's Spirit enabling their work.
Imagine: The priests were like special parts of the hose system, directing the flow of God's grace (the water) through specific rituals to cleanse and nourish His people.
4. Kings: Leading God's People
God also raised up kings to lead His people, Israel. Great kings like David were specially chosen and empowered by God's Spirit.
When Samuel anointed David as king, 1 Samuel 16:13 says, "And the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day forward." This Spirit helped him lead, fight battles, and write amazing psalms.
Imagine: The king was like a main pipe, through whom the water (Holy Spirit) flowed to bring order, justice, and protection to the entire community (the garden).

One God, Many Ways of Working
So, you see? Even though there is one God—the Father as the ultimate source, Jesus as the perfect channel, and the Holy Spirit as the active power—He works in countless ways through different people. Whether it was a prophet, a prisoner, a priest, or a king, God's Spirit flowed through them to do His will.
This helps us understand that God is always active, always working, and always present. He's not distant, but intimately involved in His creation, bringing life and guidance through His powerful Spirit.
